Troubleshooting
The 6V Solar Panel is designed to supply trickle charge power to compatible Moultrie feeders that operate on 6V systems. If you're experiencing trouble validating the panel's functionality, please follow the steps below.
Issue: Power Validation
1. Is the panel compatible with the feeder?
- No → Feeder should be a 6V model and use the tab-top battery type or a safety battery.
- Yes → Proceed to Step 2.
2. Is the user using the correct battery?
- No → The battery should be a rechargeable 6V feeder battery. The Moultrie 6V tab-top battery or 6V Rechargeable Safety Battery is recommended.
- Yes → Proceed to Step 3.
3. Is the solar panel correctly connected to the battery? (If your panel cable is a barrel jack connector, ensure it is securely seated in the solar port on the feeder kit, then move to step 4)
- No → Make sure the red wire is connected to the positive (+) terminal and the black wire is connected to the negative (-) terminal. Incorrect connection may result in worse battery life.
- Yes → Proceed to Step 4.
4. Is the solar panel aimed correctly (as close to south-facing as possible)?
-
No → Panel should be aimed as close to south as possible.
- Small deviations won't drastically reduce performance.
- If the feeder can rotate, rotate a leg to point south. If it cannot rotate, mount the panel to the leg closest to the south.
- Yes → Proceed to Step 5.
5. Can the panel receive direct sun at some point during the day?
-
No →
- Check for hanging branches, structures, or other obstructions.
- Move the feeder or remove obstructions to minimize shade.
- Consider using a sun tracker app to visualize daily sun exposure.
- Yes → The panel should be operating correctly. Monitor for further issues.
If all of the above looks good, your panel should be charging the battery as expected. Still having trouble? Keep an eye on it for a day or two, and give us a call at 1-844-908-1219 if the issue continues.
