Troubleshooting
Experience issues with your Varmint Guard III? Run through the troubleshooting below for most issues.
Camera Does Not Fit in Cage
- Verify that your camera model is compatible with the Varmint Guard III. Refer to the product packaging or the Moultrie website for the compatibility list.
- Remove any bulky accessories attached to the camera that may prevent it from fitting properly inside the cage.
Excessive Blank / Missed Detections
- Open the cage door and inspect the front opening to ensure neither the camera lens nor the PIR sensor is obstructed by a cage bar or debris.
- Clean the camera lens with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Ensure the camera is aimed correctly and the PIR sensor has a clear line of sight to the target area.
Blurry Images
- Inspect the front opening of the cage for any buildup of mud, spider webs, or debris that may be partially blocking the lens.
- Clean the camera lens and the cage opening as needed.
Cage Is Loose on the Tree
- Retighten the mounting straps on the Varmint Guard III.
- Check that the camera itself is still firmly strapped to the tree, as a loose camera can cause the cage to shift.
- Inspect the mounting straps for wear or damage and replace if necessary.
Cage Door Will Not Close / Latch
- Inspect the door hinge and latch for bending, damage, or debris. Clear any obstructions.
- If the cage has been impacted by wildlife, check for structural deformation that may prevent the door from closing properly.
