Troubleshooting
Is your camera taking completely black images at night, or pink/purple-tinted images during the day? This is usually caused by the camera's IR (infrared) filter becoming stuck in the wrong position. Follow the steps below to correct it.
Understanding the IR Filter
Your camera has an IR filter that automatically switches between day and night modes. During the day, the filter blocks infrared light to capture accurate color photos. At night, the filter opens to let in IR light from the flash, producing clear black-and-white images. When this filter gets stuck:
Black night images = filter is stuck CLOSED (blocking IR light at night)
Pink/purple day images = filter is stuck OPEN (letting in IR light during the day)
IR Filter Reset Procedure
Rapidly switching the camera between light and dark environments forces the IR filter to reset:
- Bring the camera indoors to a room where you can control the lighting.
- Alternate between lights ON and lights OFF, triggering a photo each time.
- Repeat this cycle 6 to 8 times.
- Ensure each photo uploads before moving to the next cycle.
- Place the camera back outside and monitor for 24 hours.
If the Issue Persists
If black night or pink day images continue after performing the IR Filter Reset:
