Seeing pure-black nighttime images or pink/purple daytime photos? This is an IR filter stuck in the wrong position; a quick reset usually fixes it.
Step 1 Check Batteries
Low power can cause the IR filter to malfunction. Confirm you're using fresh Moultrie or Energizer batteries and that the camera has a strong charge before proceeding.
Step 2 IR Filter Reset (takes about 2 minutes)
This cycles the filter between day and night mode to knock it back into position:
- Bring the camera into a completely dark room.
- Trigger a photo (walk in front of the camera or wave your hand).
- Turn the lights on and trigger another photo.
- Repeat 6–8 times — alternating dark and light triggers.
- Return the camera outside in natural daylight and monitor for improvement.
What to expect: After the reset, the first 1–2 photos may still look off. Give it a few shots in natural light before deciding if the reset worked.
Still Seeing the Issue?
If photos remain black or pink after the IR reset, the filter mechanism may need to be inspected. Contact us with a few example photos attached.
