EDGE 4: Batteries Draining

Not sure if this is your device? This article is for the EDGE 4 cameras (Edge 4 NW & Edge 4 First Lite). Double-check this info or click here to visit our "Identify My Device" page before you continue.

Batteries draining faster than expected? The most common causes are weak signal, high-draw settings, or batteries that weren't fresh to begin with. Work through the steps below.

Moultrie's Rechargeable Battery Packs.

Step 1 Start With Fresh Batteries

Use a new, matched set of 8 AA batteries. Moultrie or Energizer Alkaline or Lithium. Never mix brands, old with new, or use rechargeable.

Step 2 Check Signal Strength

Weak signal is one of the biggest battery drains. The camera burns power retrying connections. In the app, check your camera's signal level.

  • If signal is Poor or None, relocate the camera to a spot with stronger coverage.
  • Even moving a few feet higher or to an area with less tree cover can significantly improve signal.

Step 3 Apply Battery-Saver Settings

Use these settings as a baseline test for 24–48 hours:

  • Mode: Photo (not Video)
  • Upload Frequency: 24-hour
  • On-Demand: Disabled
  • Detection Delay: 5 minutes or longer
  • PIR Sensitivity: Medium

Note: Setting changes take effect after the camera's next scheduled check-in.

Step 4 Report Back After 48 Hours

Send us:

  • Starting battery % (right after applying the settings)
  • Battery % at 24 hours, and again at 48 hours
  • Any location or setting changes made during the test

What to Expect
