Not sure if this is your device? This article is for the EDGE 4 cameras (Edge 4 NW & Edge 4 First Lite). Double-check this info or click here to visit our "Identify My Device" page before you continue.
Getting Started
Congratulations on your new EDGE 4 camera! You're minutes away from getting photos straight to your phone. Follow the steps below to get up and running.
1. Check Coverage
Your EDGE 4 works with the nation's top carriers automatically — no need to match your personal phone plan.
Heads up: In some rural areas, carriers use roaming agreements that don't extend to connected devices like trail cameras. If your phone shows signal but the camera won't connect, try a slightly different location.
2. Pick a Strong Signal Spot
Before permanently mounting, find a spot with a clear view of the sky and away from dense tree cover, metal structures, and low-lying areas. Good signal from the start saves troubleshooting later.
3. Activate & Select a Plan
In the Moultrie Mobile app or at app.moultriemobile.com, go to Manage Account → Manage Subscription → Activate Device and follow the prompts to choose your plan.
4. Install Batteries
Install one of Moultrie's Rechargeable Battery Packs to save. Or insert 8-16 fresh AA Alkaline or Lithium batteries. Make sure all 8 are on the same side of the tray.
- Recommended: Moultrie or Energizer Alkaline or Lithium AA.
- Replace the full set at once — never mix old and new, or different brands.
- Do not use rechargeable AA batteries.
5. Power On & Connect
Flip the power switch to ON. Watch the status lights:
- Battery indicator — shows current charge level.
- CONNECTING (flashing) — camera is searching for signal.
- CONNECTED (solid, then off) — successfully connected; camera is ready to shoot.
- NOT CONNECTED (red) — no connection. Check that your plan is active and try a different spot.
Pro Tip: If a firmware update is available, the LEDs will flash and the camera will restart automatically. Let it finish before pressing anything.
6. Send a Test Picture
Press and release the CONNECT button. The status lights will flash while the image uploads. Once the lights go off, pull down to refresh your app gallery — your test photo should appear.
Pro Tip: Do your first activation and test shot at home before heading to the field. It's much easier to troubleshoot with Wi-Fi nearby.
