Battery life getting low too quickly?  Below is information on our recommended batteries and other helpful hints to help you get the most out of your camera's battery life.

Extend Battery Life (Older Moultrie Cellular Cameras)

Quick Wins

  • Choose the right SD card and keep it formatted (details below).
  • Place the camera in strong cell signal (a few feet can make a big difference).
  • Update settings: Upload every 3 or 6 hours; Detection Delay 15–30 seconds.

1) Use Moultrie-Recommended Batteries

Through extensive testing, lithium batteries typically deliver the best performance. They handle cold temperatures better and usually last longer than alkaline.

If you prefer standard alkaline, we recommend Energizer or Moultrie—they’ve performed best in our testing.

2) Use a Moultrie-Recommended SD Card

Your SD card affects both performance and battery life because the camera reads the card during each upload.

  • Capacity: 4GB–32GB
    • Important: Do not use over a 16GB card in 6000/7000 series cellular cameras or any traditional (non-cellular) cameras.
  • Type: SDHC
  • Speed: Class 10, U1

Format regularly (in-camera or in settings). Each time your camera connects, it scans the card to decide what to upload. Fewer old files = less processing time = better battery life.

3) Ensure Strong Cellular Signal

  • Mount the camera where bars are strongest. Weak signal forces longer connection times, which drains batteries faster.
  • Cell signal can change over short distances—try moving the camera or antenna a few feet up, down, or sideways to improve reception.

4) Optimize Your Settings

  • Upload Frequency: Choose every 3 hours or every 6 hours for a great balance of fresh photos and longer battery life.
  • Detection Delay: Set to 15–30 seconds to reduce back-to-back shots of the same scene and save power.

Pro Tip: External Power

Want even more field time? Add an external power source. See external power options.
