Troubleshooting
Batteries getting low quickly? Rapid battery drain is usually caused by the battery pack itself, high-draw settings, or weak signal. Below are the troubleshooting steps to get you back to the best battery life
Step 1 — Insert fresh recommended batteries
Use a new set (no mixed or previously used cells).
Energizer & Moultrie brands of batteries are recommended.
Step 2 — Check coverage (signal strength)
If signal is low or unstable, move the camera to an area with stronger coverage. Weak signal can cause connection retries that drain batteries.
Step 3 — Apply the Battery-Saver Profile (exact settings)
- Mode: Photo (not Video)
- Upload Frequency: 24-hour
- On-Demand (if available): Disabled
- Detection Delay: 5 minutes or longer
-
Sensitivity: Medium
Note: Setting changes may take effect after the camera’s next check-in.
Step 4 — Monitor & report (24–48 hours)
Leave the camera in place and avoid other changes during the test window. Please send us:
- Start % (right after applying the profile)
- End % after 24 hours and again at 48 hours
- Any setting or location changes you made
What to expect / next steps
- If battery life stabilizes with these steps, you can keep the Battery-Saver Profile or adjust gradually for your needs. Please reference the below mentioned article for tips on settings that affect battery life.
-
If you still see a rapid drop after the steps above, please chat with us or call us at 1-844-908-1219 while you’re with the camera so we can run live checks and move to the next step if needed.
Power Tip: Rechargeable Battery Compatibility
Not all rechargeable battery packs work the same way in trail cameras. Some third-party or off-brand rechargeable packs may not manage power in the same way as approved battery options. Because of this, they can sometimes:
- Provide inconsistent power while the camera is operating
- Report battery status inaccurately
- Cause unexpected restarts or missed check-ins
- Lead to upload or connection issues that look like camera problems but are power-related
What We Recommend
- If you’re experiencing unexplained connection, upload, or stability issues, one of the quickest ways to rule out a power-related cause is to test the camera with a different power source.
- We recommend testing with one of the following:
- A Moultrie rechargeable battery pack, or
- A fresh set of Energizer/Moultrie alkaline or lithium AA batteries. This quick test often helps determine whether the issue is power-related and can prevent unnecessary troubleshooting.
