1. Coverage
You should mount your camera in an area with good Verizon cellular coverage, but don’t worry – it doesn’t matter who your personal cellphone provider is. To check Verizon coverage in your area, click here.
Please be aware that some roaming agreements allow carriers to use towers they don’t own to provide coverage in rural areas. In these cases, connected devices – like cellular trail cameras – are not covered. This is why your phone may have a good signal in some rural areas, but your cellular camera may not.
2. Signal
While having good coverage is important, you’ve got to have a strong signal, too. Keep your camera clear of dense shrubs and trees, low-lying areas, and other natural obstructions that can block a signal to your modem.
Pro Tips:
- Move your camera to an area with better cell coverage to improve performance. This can be from just a few feet to another location entirely.
- After each connection from a different spot, check your app for the updated signal readings to find the best location.
- Check antenna for damage or proper attachment.
- If your signal is weak (yellow or red LED light), please relocate the camera to a place with stronger signal.
3. SD Card
Be sure to always use a recommended SD card for your camera.
Pro Tips:
- Make sure that you are using a new 4GB-32GB class 10 SD Card.
- Do not use SDXC cards, Micro/Mini cards, Ultra Capacity or High-Speed cards.
- SD cards can cause errors when they are old, corrupted, full of images, previously used by other cameras, too large, or specialized high-speed cards.
- Do not use SD Cards between devices without fully formatting in your computer or laptop first to restore it first. Formatting the SD Card fully in your laptop or computer will typically correct SD Card errors.
- Having a dedicated SD Card per camera is recommended
