Clogging – 350LB Sled Feeder Troubleshooting

350LB Sled Feeder (SKU/Product #: MFG-15127)

Is your feeder clogging? See below for common causes and how to correct them.

Troubleshooting

Our feeders are designed to use ¼" whole kernel corn:

  • Anything drastically bigger or smaller can potentially cause material run-out, clogging, or bridging inside the hopper.
  • Powder-like material (e.g., rice bran) in humid environments without mixing with a larger granule can cake and bridge at the hopper exit.
  • Differing granule sizes can jam under the spin plate and prevent it from moving.
  • Corn with excessive powder or dust can cause buildup on interior surfaces and jam the feeder.

Molded Corn in Metal Hoppers

  • Corn sitting at the lower edges of the metal hopper can mold in humid conditions.
  •  An internal funnel liner can help to prevent this.

Potential Causes of Moisture in Hopper

  • Lid not pressed down firmly after filling.
  • Lid not twisted fully to the locked position.
  • Hopper panels are not pressed together firmly at the seams.
TIP: With a 350 lbs. hopper, a full load of molded corn is a significant loss. Inspect and clean the hopper thoroughly before every refill.
