1. Overview
The Pro Hunter III Feeder Kit (both broadcast and directional models) supports Moultrie Connect. This feature uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to pair the feeder with an EDGE 3 Series camera. Once linked, the camera acts as a cellular bridge, letting you control and monitor your feeder remotely from anywhere in the Moultrie app.
With the feeder linked via Moultrie Connect, you can:
- Trigger Feed on Demand from the Moultrie app over cellular
- Remotely manage feed schedules (up to 10 feed times per day)
- Sync feed times automatically with local sunrise and sunset
- Create custom day-specific feeding schedules
- Monitor feeder battery level and last feed event from the app
✅ No Extra Subscription Required Pairing your Pro Hunter III with an EDGE 3 Series camera via Moultrie Connect requires no additional subscription beyond your existing Moultrie plan. Note: Enabling On Demand can noticeably impact your camera’s battery life. |
2. Before You Begin
| Requirement | Details |
| Camera | EDGE 3 Series camera -active, connected to cellular, and powered on. Earlier EDGE models did not support Moultrie Connect BLE linking. |
| Feeder | Pro Hunter III Feeder Kit (broadcast or directional). The feeder must be powered on. |
| Battery | The feeder requires a 6V battery in the battery compartment with terminals attached, matching polarity. Ensure the charge is adequate. |
| Proximity | Camera and feeder must be within 300 feet (approx. 100 yards) of each other for BLE to function. |
| App | The Moultrie app is installed on your mobile device. Moultrie Connect management is available in the app, not on the website. |
| Account | Logged in to the Moultrie app with the account that owns the EDGE 3 camera. |
| Timer activation | Press any button on the timer to activate the display. The screen lights up, and the BLE radio begins broadcasting. |
| Timer navigation | Use the Mode button to cycle through screens (Time, Feed Time, Run Duration). Use + / − to adjust values, then press Set to confirm. |
| BLE indicator | Look for the Bluetooth indicator on the display to confirm BLE pairing mode is active before tapping Link Now in the app. |
| Display timeout | The display goes to sleep after about 30 seconds of inactivity. If it goes dark before linking completes, press any button to wake it again. |
3. How to Link Your Feeder
Follow these steps in the Moultrie app:
| Step | Action | Details |
| 1 | Open the App | Launch the Moultrie app and log in to your account. |
| 2 | Go to Devices | Tap the Devices tab and select your EDGE 3 Series camera. |
| 3 | Find the Linking Banner | If a compatible feeder is detected nearby, you’ll see a banner: “Ready to link with camera — Link Now.” If the banner is not visible, scroll down within the device settings to find the Link Now option. |
| 4 | Tap “Link Now” | Tap Link Now to begin. A spinning wheel with “Searching for camera…” will appear while the BLE connection is being established. |
| 5 | Wait for Confirmation | The app confirms when linking is complete. Your feeder will now communicate with Moultrie’s servers through the camera. |
| 6 | Verify On Demand | If On Demand is enabled on your camera, a Feed on Demand action will appear in the app within a few minutes of successful linking. |
⏱ Feed on Demand Takes ~3 Minutes After tapping Feed on Demand, allow approximately 3 minutes for the feeder to receive and execute the command. |
4. Managing Your Feeder via Moultrie Connect
All Moultrie Connect management is done through the Devices tab in the Moultrie app. The website does not support these controls.
4.1 Feed Scheduling
- Open the Devices tab, select your camera, then tap the linked feeder
- Tap Scheduler to view or edit feed times and durations
- Program up to 10 feed times per day with individual run durations
- Two default feed times are pre-set: 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM
- Sunrise/Sunset mode: auto-syncs feed times with daylight. Note that enabling this disables standard scheduled feed times.
- Changes to feed schedules take effect at the next previously scheduled feed time
4.2 Feed on Demand
- Go to your camera in the Devices tab
- Select the linked feeder and tap Feed on Demand
- The feeder will spin within approximately 3 minutes
🔋 Battery Advisory Using Moultrie Connect with On Demand can noticeably impact your camera’s battery life. Consider using lithium batteries or a solar panel if On Demand will be used frequently. |
4.3 Unlinking Your Feeder
- Open the Moultrie app and tap the Devices tab
- Select the EDGE 3 camera that the feeder is linked to
- Locate the linked feeder in the device settings
- Select Unlink or Disconnect and confirm when prompted
After unlinking, the feeder reverts to local Bluetooth-only control. You can re-link at any time by repeating Section 3.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 ⚠️ Factory Reset Warning
🚨 Avoid Repeated Factory Resets on the BLE Kit Performing frequent or consecutive factory resets (FR) on the feeder’s BLE components can cause linking and connectivity issues rather than resolve them. A factory reset should be treated as a last resort — not a first step. Work through all other troubleshooting steps below before attempting a reset. If a reset is performed, allow the feeder to fully power cycle and re-establish its Bluetooth stack before attempting to re-link to the camera. |
5.2 Feeder Did Not Link to Camera
| Possible Cause | Resolution |
| Too far apart | Ensure the feeder and camera are within 300 feet (approx. 100 yards). Move them closer and retry. |
| Feeder not powered on | Confirm the feeder is switched on. Check that the 6V battery is installed correctly with terminals attached and matching polarity. |
| Low feeder battery | Verify battery charge is adequate. Replace the 6V battery if needed. |
| Camera not on EDGE 3 | Moultrie Connect BLE requires an EDGE 3 Series camera. Earlier models (EDGE, EDGE 2) are not compatible. |
| Camera not cellular | Confirm your EDGE 3 has an active cellular connection in the Devices tab before linking. |
| App not updated | Ensure you are running the latest version of the Moultrie app (App Store or Google Play). |
| Repeated FR performed | If multiple factory resets were done recently, power the feeder completely off, wait 60 seconds, power back on, and allow the Bluetooth stack to fully initialize before re-attempting to link. Do not perform another reset. |
5.3 Feeder Missed a Scheduled Feed
| Possible Cause | Resolution |
| Sunrise/Sunset mode on | Sunrise/Sunset mode disables standard scheduled feed times. The feeder will only spin twice daily. Disable this mode to use a custom schedule. |
| App not controlling the feeder | In the app, check the Scheduler screen to confirm feed times are saved. Also, verify the feeder status shows as linked. |
| Low battery | If the feeder battery shows below 20%, replace the 6V battery. Low voltage can cause missing feeds. |
| Schedule change timing | Schedule changes only take effect at the next previously scheduled feed time. If you just updated the schedule, wait for the following feed event. |
| Single missed feed | If only one feed was missed, wait for the next scheduled event. Occasional single misses can occur during brief connectivity gaps. |
5.4 Feeder Won’t Spin
- Check the 6V battery charge and connection (terminals attached, correct polarity)
- Inspect the spin plate for physical obstructions (debris, ice, excess feed buildup) and clear any blockage
- Run a test spin from the app to isolate whether the issue is connectivity or mechanical
- Confirm the feeder is within BLE range of your phone (for local control) or camera (for Moultrie Connect)
5.5 General Tips
- Always manage Moultrie Connect from the Devices tab in the Moultrie app — the website does not support these controls
- If linking fails repeatedly without an obvious cause, power both the camera and feeder off, wait 60 seconds, power back on, and retry the link process from the app
- Avoid performing factory resets as a routine troubleshooting step — see Section 5.1 for the factory reset warning
