Overview
The Compass and My Direction features help you see your location, direction, and distance on the map in real time. This guide walks you through how to use these features and fix common issues.
How to Use the Compass
Open the Compass
- Go to the Map screen
- Tap the Compass icon (top left)
- The map will center on your location and show your direction
Close the Compass
- Tap the back button or location arrow
- You’ll return to your previous map view
Location Modes Explained
Free Explore
- Shown as an unfilled arrow
- You are exploring the map and not centered on your location
My Location
- Tap the arrow once
- The map centers on your current location
My Direction (Recommended)
- Tap the arrow twice
- A blue directional beam appears
- The map updates as you turn your phone
Zoom & Distance
- Zoom in as close as needed
- Maximum zoom out in Compass is about 1 mile (1760 yards)
- Yardage markers adjust automatically as you zoom
Map View Settings
- The Compass uses your current map layer
- To change map type:
- Exit the Compass
- Change the map layer
- Reopen the Compass
Important Notes
- Compass works in portrait mode only
- Tapping the location arrow while in Compass will exit back to the map
Troubleshooting
Compass is not working
Make sure:
- You are on the Map screen
- Your device is in portrait mode
- Location services are enabled
Direction is not updating
- Tap the location arrow twice
- Look for the blue beam to confirm My Direction is active
Map looks incorrect
- Exit the Compass
- Change your map layer
- Reopen the Compass
