UNDERSTANDING BUILT-IN MEMORY
Q: How many images or videos will the built-in memory hold?
A: This depends on the camera settings, like photo resolution and photo/video mode. The camera has 8GB of storage and will automatically clear the oldest items in it's memory when it’s approaching full to make room for the newest photos or videos. This feature is referred to as Managed Memory, and removes the need to clear/format the camera's memory. However, a Clear Memory option is available for you in the app settings for your EDGE series cameras.
UNDERSTANDING AUTO-CONNECT & SIGNAL STRENGTH
Q: Can I buy it/does it work in Canada?
A: Edge 2 is only available for sale in the U.S. It is not for sale or meant for use in Canada or anywhere outside the U.S.
Q: Why does the camera’s signal level change when the camera has not moved?
A: EDGE series cameras work on multiple nationwide networks. If the signal is inconsistent or drops to an unacceptable level, the camera will automatically connect to another network with the strongest signal.
Q: Can I see what network my camera is connected to?
A: You will not be able to tell what network the camera is connected to. The network may change if the camera detects a stronger signal and switches to it. All of this will be seamless and automatic.
Q: If I have low signal, does this mean I am missing out on potential activity?
A: No. EDGE series cameras will continue to capture and upload photos and videos, even when connectivity is low. Having a low signal does not mean you’re missing pictures and videos. Your EDGE PRO can upload photos with only a single bar of signal, so even when it’s mounted in a low-signal area, you can count on receiving your photos and videos to view them in the Moultrie app.
Q: How does low signal impact the camera’s battery life?
A: Your cellular camera uses power to not only transmit, but to stay connected with a cellular signal. When a camera’s batteries are low, it has less power to stay connected. If the signal was weak to start with, then low batteries can make connections more troublesome. A camera will often stay powered on longer in low signal conditions in order to successfully complete a connection/upload. In this case, it’s possible that your data could be re-transmitted if it failed to upload on the first attempt, creating more battery usage. Additionally, more energy is needed for an antenna to radiate longer distances in weaker signal areas if a tower is further away, or an obstacle is obstructing transmission or reception. When setting up your camera, follow these tips to make sure your camera can successfully connect:
- Activate your camera at home after adding it to your account. Make sure that your camera connects and sends some test photos. Then turn the camera off and mount it on your next trip to the field.
- Before mounting the camera to a tree or post, power it on and press CONNECT a few times to send test pictures. Check your app for the pictures by pulling down from the top of the Gallery page to refresh it.
- As you receive your test photos, check the signal strength in the app. If it’s not connecting, or shows NONE for signal, you’ll need to move the camera to a different location for it to upload photos and videos.
- Check the signal after each connection from a different location to ensure you are in the best signal area.
UNDERSTANDING ON DEMAND (August 2024!)
Q: How do I use On Demand / what does it do?
A: On Demand is a camera feature that allows you to request images or videos in real-time, or 'On Demand'. The setting must be enabled and the camera must accept the setting update prior to requesting an image or video on demand.
Q: How do I enable On Demand in the app?
A: Navigate to On Demand and toggle the setting on.
Q: If I toggle On Demand on, when will it accept the setting, and when can I request?
A: Your camera must check-in and accept the On Demand setting after toggling it on. Once the On Demand setting is enabled and accepted, you can make an on Demand request at any time. When On Demand is enabled, settings changes will update within 2 minutes
Q: What can I request with On Demand?
A: Hi-Res images and Videos from the app. Admins can also request a check-in from admin settings.
Q: Can I use On Demand if the power is off?
A: No. The camera must be on for On Demand to work.
Q: How long are the videos?
A: On Demand videos are based on current video length settings: 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds in length
Q: How quickly will I get a picture / video after pressing On Demand?
A: Depending on video length and signal, up to 2 minutes.
Q: What is the impact of On Demand on battery life?
A: Using the On Demand feature will require more battery life when toggled on. Ensure your On Demand feature is toggled off if not using it.
